Our Mission
The Robert S. Miller Family Foundation for Equity and Justice works to help restore, mobilize, and build equity in Kentucky’s under-served communities and fund the causes that were important to Mr. Miller. We seek to empower and uplift work by individuals and organizations in the BIPOC, LGBTQ, immigrant, rural, and Appalachian communities of Kentucky.
Our core funding goals will be consistent with the philanthropic work done by Robert Miller throughout his life. He sought to support equity, fairness, and justice for all people. We will fund programming that is being done within Kentucky by individuals and non-profits created and governed by people from the communities they represent. We are particularly interested in funding programs that deal with the arts, racial equity, reproductive justice, environmental justice, support for the unhoused, domestic abuse protection, restoration of civil rights, legal aid for low-income people, and education.
We will not fund partisan groups or any organizations that do not openly welcome LGBTQ Kentuckians. We will not work with groups that do not support racial equity and justice. We embrace Kentuckians of all or no faiths. While we are proud to support faith-based institutions and inter-faith programming, we will not fund projects that contain exclusionary religious content or hiring practices. We will not work with any group that practices methods which stand in opposition to our mission.
Chiefly, we hope to broaden collaboration and heal community divisions through empowerment and equity.
